- CHESS MONITOR INSTRUCTIONS
-
- This set of instructions can be downloaded by downloading the
- file CHESSDOR.DOC.
-
- These instructions are not to teach you how to play chess but how
- to operate this software.
-
- You are not playing the computer you are playing another user on
- this system, remember you only get better if you play often.
-
- The board is set up in normal chess board convention with piece
- location notation as follows, the numbers from 1 to 8 going from
- the bottom of the board to the top and the letters from A to H
- accross the board from left to right. White pieces are at the
- bottom of the screen.
-
- The pieces are noted on the board with two(2) letters the first
- being the color of the piece and the last what piece it is.
- Therefore a notation of WK would mean the white king and BQ would
- mean the black Queen. The pieces are as follows:
-
- K = King
- Q = Queen
- B = Bishop
- N = Knight
- R = Rook
- P = Pawn
-
- The program will:
-
- 1. Monitor all moves to insure they are valid.
- 2. Inform you if you OR your emeny are in check.
- 3. Allow castling.
- 4. Allow pawn promotion,
- 5. Inform you if it is your move when you sign on.
- 6. Let you look at any other games that are going on.
- 7. Let you know if there are any openings available to play in.
-
- The program will NOT:
-
- 1. Inform you that someone is in checkmate.
- You must quit if you are in checkmate.
- 2. Inform you if you are in stalmate.
- You must quit if you are in stalmate.
-
- If you quit it will be posted on the score board and you will be
- listed as the loser unless the following is true.
-
- 1. If you emeny has not moved in 3 weeks you will be posted as
- the winner by (D) meaning default.
- 2. If no other player is on the game you are quitting from.
- Than nothing is placed on the score board.
-
- The convention for making a move is E2;E4 this will move the
- piece from position E2 to E4 and redraw to board with the piece
- moved to the new position.
-
- If you wish to take back this move for any reason you may the
- enter the correct number from the menu to change move and this
- will then redraw the board back to the orginal position.
-
- To make this your move you must lock it and then it is there to
- stay and like in the rules you have removed your hand and can not
- change your mind.
-
- To castle you move your King to the position that would be after
- you castle and the Rook will go to the correct position.
- Remember you cannot castle after you have once moved your King or
- the Rook you are going to castle with.
-
- You may have the black squares marked with '--' or blank. You
- will have them marked when you first sign on, but may change them
- at any time you wish.
-
- You may look at the score board at any time and join as many
- games as you like so enjoy come back often to keep the games
- interesting and by all means do not abuse the rights of others.
-
- If either player does not make a move in three(3) weeks the
- program will make the player who made the last move the winner
- by default(D).
